The Miguel B. Fernandez Family Foundation Center for Innovation and Collaborative Learning is a new 35,000-square-foot facility at Loyola University Maryland, a private Jesuit liberal arts university in Baltimore, Maryland. The new space and recently refurbished Beatty Hall transform the 170-year-old university's academic courtyard into a contemporary learning center. This vibrant, state-of-the-art and sustainable building is designed to enhance the way Loyola community members learn, teach, collaborate, innovate, research and network. We conceived and designed a comprehensive donor identification system, exterior building signage, ADA/code signage, interpretive elements, and environmental graphics. All components are inspired by the central themes in the building's name - innovation and collaborative learning.

The Fernandez Center creates both a new, modern entry point to the campus and a public connection to the outside community. The facility is adjacent to Beatty Hall, a 100-year-old "Gothic College" academic building that underwent a complete interior "re-imagining" as part of the project

纸张是人类的重大创新之一，是多种标志类型的灵感来源。从纸质原型开始，我们开发了一种“折叠”标志技术，用于在每个教室展示捐赠者识别牌、分散注意力的图形和现代的两件式十字架。

Paper is one of mankind's great innovations and has been the inspiration for many logotypes. Starting with paper prototypes, we developed a "folded" signage technique for displaying donor identification cards, distracting graphics, and a modern two-piece cross in every classroom.

Quotes from the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and St. Ignatius surround the walls of the second stairwell in the Fernandez Center and Beatty Hall. These drawn figures take the "folding" concept a step further.

图形图腾贯穿整个项目，诠释历史元素，表彰大学前任校长，并向项目命名的关键捐助者致敬。

Graphic totems are used throughout the project, interpreting historical elements, honoring past university presidents, and honoring key donors to whom the project is named.

We created an installation featuring the historic stained glass of Xavier Hall in honor of the chapel that once stood on the former site of the New Fernandez Center.
