After a century of silence, the story of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre will be shared with the nation. In 1921, a group of white residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma, destroyed the prosperous African-American Greenwood neighborhood known as Black Wall Street, razing more than 35 blocks and killing more than 300 people. The events known today as the Tulsa Race Massacre were covered up by the state and federal governments and generally not taught in American schools. The Centennial Commemoration Committee for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre used local projects to develop an exhibit space that tells the story not only of the massacre itself, but of the extraordinary and resilient Greenwood community.

Of course, the value of Yulin is that it is also like a thumbnail, providing a certain search for the thirty-year history of contemporary Chinese life. Preserving documents for Yulin is the keynote of this exhibition. There have been too many reports about the exhibition. As an exhibitor and designer of the exhibition space, Ji Yi may let everyone know another intention of the exhibition from her own perspective.

change destiny This gallery covers 80 years of history. Split-screen graphics contrast streetscapes of the Greenwood borough in its heyday with photographs of the city's renewal, framing the borough's theme of "changing fortunes." A bold and interpretive Greenwood business logo was installed in the exhibition space. The installation depicts key community members, while the twinkling lights and various states of repair (disrepair) reference the ebb and flow of economic success following the Holocaust. The pivotal moment in Greenwood's history after the massacre demonstrates how the community succeeded but also struggled to overcome the legacy of historical racial trauma. Stories push and pull from the walls, demonstrating the ongoing duality of experience.
