The building is both influenced by and interprets its surroundings, making it difficult to build anywhere else in the world. With its triangular plan, the building blends naturally into Nuuk's townscape and Greenland's stunning, breathtaking landscape, creating a stunning backdrop for this unique cultural centre.

Soaring ceilings characterize the foyer. The space "flows" below the roof's "high water mark" between undulating golden walls and free-standing white Euclidean shapes - here the cylindrical volume of the main hall.
Large areas of marble flooring break the elements into a whole. Low glazed windows overlook the street, introducing a human scale into the towering space.
The foyer is an indoor public meeting space that serves the community and provides a welcoming venue for a variety of events. Light hits the white walls of individual volumes – squares, triangles, and here circles.

Katuak not only celebrates the breathtaking beauty of its natural surroundings, but also provides Nuuk's important urban center.
The architectural design features undulating and sloping screens that symbolically represent the mesmerizing Northern Lights, elegantly resembling draped fabric suspended above the ground. This design element also pays homage to the majestic Greenland mountains, creating a harmonious dialogue with the vast skies and awe-inspiring landscapes, embracing the essence of nature.

The large multifunctional main hall (in a free-standing cylinder) is designed to accommodate theatrical performances, film screenings and concerts as well as conferences and popular events. The ceiling and acoustic baffles are clad in maple veneer and complemented by maple floors. Seats and stage can be folded away.
For theatrical performances, concerts, etc., an amphitheater arrangement with seating for 430 people can be constructed in a simple manner. The rotunda also offers possibilities for many other arrangements.

Inspired by the majestic scenery of Greenland's icebergs, snowfields and mountains, the main elements of the building are wrapped in a "floating" undulating screen of golden larch wood.

The screen acts as an architectural metaphor for the Northern Lights, while the main building's darkness and massive form recall Greenland's icebergs.

The second "skin" gives the scheme an elegant airy feel, contrasting with the solid form of the core building.
