At the Alaska Airlines Flagship Lounge at Sea-Tac International Airport, the doors are always open. Travelers seek lounges to escape the anxiety, noise and bustle of the lobby. Airport lounges have traditionally catered to this desire by emphasizing exclusivity: stylish, business-oriented havens that prioritize the needs of privileged travelers. Alaska Airlines seeks to change the lounge genre by providing a warm, welcoming space where all guests can find refuge—relax, work, refuel, and connect—a place deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest outside of home s home.

Functionally, the lounge is conceived as four areas: Come In, an approachable entrance; Help Yourself, a casual bistro; Breathe Deep, a haven of tranquil relaxation; and Cut Loose, a cozy bar atmosphere. Gently separated by a series of oak and twisted metal screens, the spaces come together as one. Exploration leads to surprises and discoveries: each space has its own unique furniture, acoustic properties, floor and ceiling materials, and light quality. By offering a range of experiences, every guest will find a place to feel at home.

The entry sequence starts at the lobby level. A 50-foot-wide window announces the lounge and provides an inviting glimpse of the interior space. An oak frame runs along the corridor, guiding guests to the threshold. A porous transition to the beckoning view of the large central fireplace serves as an invitation to enter. The concierge greets guests in a gently compressed space featuring sculptural wooden tables and luminous topographical screens. A 20-foot-tall wall of windows showcases views of the track, downtown Seattle, the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier.

Enter "Breathe Deep" and the hustle and bustle of the hall fade away. Guests can enjoy views of the runway and beyond from a variety of seating options, designed for individual or group comfort. High-backed tufted fabric banquettes meander through the area, creating semi-private nooks. Custom designed chaise lounge chairs encourage relaxation and contemplation. Lighting levels are reduced and sound-absorbing elements ensure listening comfort.

Help Yourself
Help Yourself occupies the center of the lounge and is the heart of the venue. A one-piece bistro counter serves as a central platform, with food and beverages available on all sides, stimulating conversations with the baristas and embracing Seattle’s coffee shop culture. Leather banquettes, moveable tables and fixed counters provide flexibility for families or solo travelers. Despite the 100 seats, intimate moments are possible.

Cut Loose
Cut Loose allows guests to relax and connect with other travelers. The oval walnut countertop is the focal point, with illuminated "airplane bottles" serving as a display at the back of the bar. End-grain oak flooring has been stained to form a "carpet" around the bar, blurring the vertical transition to the indigo-stained bar.

Local makers created custom elements throughout the space, such as light fixtures reminiscent of jet engines and a recycled cardboard screen at the entrance. By showcasing local makers and artists, Alaska Airlines pays homage to their West Coast heritage and provides passengers with a meaningful connection to the Seattle area.
